North Star Animal Center en San Antonio

If I could give no stars, I would. Worst ever kennel experience for our babies. They were cared for *when* someone was there but the manager does not take responsibility for the company and their errors, instead she blames the customer. We showed up at the business Sunday morning to pick up our pups (as stated at time the reservation was made and at drop off) and there was no one on site. Almost all lights were off and we banged on the door with no response. I also called the business 13 times between 9:28am - 5:50 pm with no answer or return call. Their posted operating hours are 8am-8pm, and they even advertise on their voicemail that they are open 365 days a year. There is no emergency number to get ahold of anyone and I have never been able to get anyone to answer the phone when calling. When someone finally called back at 1028am Monday I was told that the employee working on Sunday had an emergency and had to leave and the phone system was down so they were not receiving calls/messages. I was also told that the employee was no longer with them and this wouldn’t happen again. When we arrived to pick our babies up, we were told conflicting stories all the way around. The manager said that there were people there on Sunday but they were all in the back. Then the manager said she had a “hard time believing” that we had come by at the time we said we did. My vehicle has tracking and I can absolutely prove that we were there and according to the manager there are cameras on site. She refused to check the camera footage to verify. Additionally, what they don’t tell you is that if you don’t answer their call the day before you pick up your pets that the manager will then assume that you have forgotten about your pet and will not be coming. The manager is extremely argumentative and will turn anything around to be the customers fault. She informed me that if she hires more employees to cover the needed shifts that she will have to increase the prices and then people will be mad also. We have 3 VERY well loved purebred dogs and are particular about where we leave them. Our regular kennel was booked and they recommended these guys. Never again and recommend that people steer clear of this place. Everything is great at this place until they mess up. Also, worth noting- this was our second visit and the first we spent quite a bit as our 3 were there for a week. They don’t seem to care if you are a returning customer either.

You cannot go in with your pet. So you don't see what was done and what wasnt, how your pet was evaluated and what was missed. The medication costs a bit more than elsewhere. The providers will not give you a prescription to buy medication elsewhere. A visit costs $55. Treatment options are a bit high compared to other locations. I would not recommend this vet clinic.

I called in early March to schedule an appointment for my Anatolian shepherd/Standard poodle and had it scheduled for the first week in March. They ended up calling me reschedule because the groomer was out of town on a family emergency. So I rescheduled for two weeks out. They ended up calling me again to reschedule as she was not available and still out of town. I was finally able to schedule him for April 3rd. When I first called to schedule I was quoted a “starting” price of $90. I was expecting it to be a bit more since I knew my dogs tail was a bit matted and he’s a large breed. I dropped him off at 9:45am and he wasn’t ready until 3:30pm. I had to call them to check on his progress. When I picked him up I was told that he was a little hard to work with especially around his feet so they added on a “handlers fee”.. there was also a “de-matting” fee added on. I wasn’t given any type of itemized list of charges as their system was down when I picked him up. They had to take my payment info and run it later when the system came back up and they called to tell me they were going to charge my card for $179. Apparently there were more fees and taxes. I chose this place because the reviews were great and the price was good in comparison to other places. They also didn’t offer any kind of discount for rescheduling me twice. The groomer wasn’t able to full groom his feet as she said he didn’t respond well. The people up front were very nice but I wasn’t expecting a $90 quote to turn into a $180 price. EDITED TO INCLUDE: I decided to give them another chance with bathing my dog. I have a border collie mix that I get bathed and deshedded ever so often so I decided to go with them for the bathing. I called and scheduled and 2 days later I get a voicemail from the manager to please call them back. I called them back and she states they would need to reschedule my appointment. She seemed very short and I’m kind of wondering if they saw my review. She didn’t give a reason for rescheduling but with that being said; I will not be taking any of my dogs here.

My babies love it here. The staff is so sweet and they provide alot of different services. Our usual boarding place had no room over the Holiday and it was a blessing in disguise. We will definitely be staying here from now on

Two weeks ago i had a horrible experience once the owner whose the most amazing vet doctor at the clinic down the street Northstar Animal Hospital. He called me and asked what he could for me and my babies and i wanted for someone to listened to my concerns and he did i have to say because of him and his compassion for my babies and generosity in making it right with me i will continue bring my babies back to his Northstar Animal Grooming facility. Thank you

The North Star Animal Center is a beautiful, spacious facility that is very clean and well-kept. The receptionist, Jessi, was welcoming and professional and Amanda did a fantastic job on trimming and grooming my dog. Highly recommend!

I love leaving my fur babies to stay here at NSAC. Dr. Mina Youssef and his team are so professional and treat my dogs with such love and care at both their center and clinic. Most trusted Vet and Boarding Center I have ever been to. They have been caring for my dogs for 3 years and have always done what's best for them!

I have a rescue dog, Diamond. I take her to the center for half day daycare twice a week. Jason and his staff are amazing. They make me feel like family. Most importantly though, they make Diamond feel like family. She gets so excited when we get to the center. She loves being at the Center and the staff loves having her. Marc, Marina, Stephanie, and Katy, Brandy, Stephanie, and Hunter give Diamond special attention that I don't think other doggy daycares will give her. I highly recommend North Star Center.
